The nomination period has closed, and as election chair, I'm pleased to announce the slate for the 2014 WSGA Board of Directors. We have another great team this year. Our thanks to these cachers for their enthusiasm, and dedication to WSGA and geocaching, and willingness to volunteer their time and energy for the club.

Since the slate has no contested offices, we don't have to hold an election. Per our Bylaws, the slate can be approved by member acclamation. Accordingly, WSGA members have until March 10 to notify me (jcar), of any objections to the Board slate. If there's no dissent, the 2014 Board of Directors will be deemed confirmed by acclamation. The term of office is from April 1st, 2014 through March 31st, 2015.

Officers

President: Abby Wolfe / hydnsek
Vice President: Lisa Wasser / Lizzy
Secretary: Andrew Johnson / Andrewrj
Treasurer: Kristine Norton / hippychick1620

Chapter Representatives

Puget Sound Rep: Chris Brue / Mc3cats
48 North Rep: Kathy McCormack / GrievousAngel
Inland Empire Rep: Jerry Martin / Martin 5
South Central Rep: Mike Lowery / tumbleweedpirates
Cache-cadian Rep: Gene Reed / Mr. Gadget #2
Southwest Rep: Vacant
Olympic Peninsula Rep: Vacant

This year was our most difficult ever for finding Board candidates. We talked to numerous nominees, and Lizzy and Andrewrj soon agreed to join hippychick1620 as officers. Unfortunately we couldn't find anyone willing to be president. In the end, we asked hydnsek if she would be willing to serve one more year (even though we already gave her a retirement gift), and after a bit of arm-twisting she agreed. We appreciate Abby's willingness to go one final year with the WSGA Board.

With half our membership, Puget Sound has never wanted for chapter reps - until this year. After being turned down by numerous candidates, we also persuaded mc3cats to return for one final year. To avoid this issue in future, both he and hydnsek are already planning their succession, with candidates they will be mentoring over the next year. (Abby also agreed to return as APE mega-event director for a fifth year, with substantial support from understudies who will assume the leadership roles next year.)

Unfortunately, we were unable to find members willing to represent our Olympic Peninsula and Southwest chapters, so those positions are vacant. This is unfortunate both for those chapter members and the club overall. However, WSGA is a nonprofit recreational club run entirely by volunteers, so if nobody steps up, we don't have many options.

The members of both chapters have been advised of the situation, and what it means:
- The 2014 WSGA Board will have nine voting members instead of eleven, and our two westernmost chapters will not have a voice in club matters.
- The Olympic Peninsula and Southwest chapters will become inactive on April 1, 2014. Neither chapter can be reinstated unless a new chapter rep is approved by the Board and the chapter has ten active members. The chapters will not have WSGA events in their areas or an allocation of swag or funds.
- Members of the inactive chapters retain all their individual WSGA membership privileges, including name tags, discounts on coins and campouts, free member bonus, member newsletter, and ability to vote for COTM. They can choose to change their affiliation to another chapter, although we hope they will retain their current one in case the chapter is later reactivated (which requires ten affiliated members).

Thanks for your consideration and support of the WSGA Board and election process.

Kathy McCormack / GrievousAngel

I am sure I speak for many who are so grateful for those who stepped up "one more time" for the sake of WSGA and the progress that has been made in the past several years. Also, to those new candidates, thanks to you for volunteering to serve this great organization in the coming year. I truly hope we can find someone to fill the two chapter posts that currently have no chapter representatives. I know that Olympic Peninsula is a very active caching area and don't want either of these areas to become unrepresented in WSGA matters.

Again, thanks so much to Abby and Chris for volunteering another year of your great service, and for pro-actively working to have your replacements ready for next year.

We're in good hands!!!
