The wait is over: WSGA members are hosting two introductory GSAK classes in the next few weeks, with more (and more advanced) classes to come if there's enough interest. These classes are equivalent, covering basically the same stuff, so register for the class that fits your schedule and location. All details below.

Thursday, Feb. 27 - Snohomish - Snohomish Library, 6:00-8:45 pm

Saturday, Mar. 15 - Bellevue - Coal Creek YMCA, 1:00-4:00 pm

What is GSAK?

Geocaching Swiss Army Knife (GSAK) is a powerful database tool for managing your geocaches and waypoints. It can track your hides, finds, and unfounds; filter caches in a huge variety in a variety of ways; manage challenges you may be working on; send waypoints to your GPSr; and much, much more.

Class Preparation
  • Attendance at both workshops is by pre-registration only - no drop-ins - and space will be limited, so sign up early.
  • Bring your laptop with GSAK already installed, ready to use. You don't need to have any geocaches imported, however. (Make sure you have enough battery life on your laptop for the class, as we can't guarantee outlets for everyone - but feel free to bring your cord just in case.)
  • GSAK is free to download from www.gsak.net and use for 21 days. After that, you will see a nag screen when you log in. The shareware fee is $30, but if you don't find it essential afterward, you can delete it.
  • Unfortunately, GSAK only works on PCs, unless you've installed a Windows emulator on your Mac.
  • Bring your GPS (and PC cable), so you can try downloading caches to it. You could also have some caches on the GPS to try uploading to GSAK, as well.
  • No kids, please. This will require the full concentration of participants.

Not all those who wander are lost.
