The success of the Washington State Parks Centennial GeoTour has surpassed the expectations of both WSGA and the State Parks. It's been THE caching experience for folks across the state this summer; we've received several nice letters from finishers about how much they enjoyed touring the parks. More than 2,700 cachers have logged at least one GeoTour cache over the past three months, and over 100 cachers have claimed gold and silver coins. Check out the finishers and statistics so far. WA State Parks is so enthusiastic, they are talking about partnering with us on future geochallenges. A huge win for everyone involved!

This baby was big, and it took nine months and a village to birth and nurture it. (Sorry, couldn't resist.) Dozens of WSGA members partnered with State Parks staff across the state, starting in September 2012 and culminating with the June 7, 2013 launch, with ongoing support as the GeoTour progresses. Groundspeak donated a one-year GeoTour and additional support. Debbie Does Decals created and donated the cache labels.

Please join us in recognizing and thanking all those who participated in this project, the largest WSGA has ever attempted.

In July, one month into the GeoTour, Ranger Tina sent me this wonderful commentary plus a moving testimonial from duma332.

To all who put so much effort into creating, organizing and implementing our 100 geocaches in 100 parks to celebrate 100 years, here is a very touching letter. The program is so popular and there are many wonderful comments. Sometimes a simple thing - a game and a celebration started by a small idea can have greater impacts than we imagine. I hope this letter shows the magic you helped create for people. It could not have happened without your time and great contributions. Thank you, Tina

Also in August, Lori and Robert Boyer of Auburn added their thoughts - plus a video of their GeoTour adventures.

Hi Ranger Tina,

Both Robert and I really enjoyed learning to geocache in this fun,
challenging, and informative way. We had a blast! It didn't hurt that
we are pretty competitive and really got into the challenge.

When Rob first brought up the idea of visiting 50 parks over the summer,
I thought, "ok, we can try..." Then when we ended up earning a silver
coin and Rob said, "let's go for the gold!" I was 100% behind the idea.
As you know from our conversations, Rob and I had never geocached
before. Doing the park system challenge was so much fun that we are
ready to make this a new hobby. We were able to glimpse so much of what
our state has to offer, learn some history of Washington, and have our
eyes opened to all of those places we never dreamed existed (some places
just outside our door).

Climbing to the top of Steamboat Rock was a personal growing experience
for me. It opened up my mind to: wow, if I can climb up that huge rock,
what else can I do? We want to go back to Beacon Rock for that very
reason. Just to hike to the top as we didn't have time to do that when
we were racing.

Thank you so much for the work you put into arranging and managing this
project! We also wanted to thank the park rangers we ran across, they
were all so friendly and helpful, and the campground hosts were a fount
of information on the local areas.

I thought you might enjoy the attached movie I put together of some of
our finds these past weeks.

Loving our parks,

Lori and Robert Boyer
