On Sept. 8, 2002, a group of Puget Sound geocachers met to discuss forming a statewide club. They were concerned that Washington State Parks was threatening to ban geocaching, and decided to create a geocaching organization that would represent and support geocachers across Washington. Thus was born Washington State Geocaching Association.

Ten years later, WSGA has grown from 19 cachers in Puget Sound to seven chapters and 360 members across Washington State. We've forged agreements not only with WA State Parks but many other park systems; hosted countless local and statewide events, including our annual campouts and Going APE mega-event; and much, much more.

We hope you'll help us blow out the candles the weekend of Sept. 8-9 as we celebrate our 10th birthday. Five chapters are hosting their events on Saturday, and Puget Sound is hosting the statewide Founders Celebration on Sunday. There will be birthday cake and gifts for everyone, plus our Volunteer Awards. Check it out:
  • Puget Sound - Sept 9 party in Renton. The club founders will reminisce, and we'll have presents and cake, volunteer awards, and a silent auction of rare caching goodies. And...on Saturday morning, we're publishing a series of 54 puzzle caches that spell out "WSGA" at the south end of Lake Washington!
  • Inland Empire - Sept 8 barbecue in Spokane Valley. But wait, there's more - four flash mobs / puzzles leading up to the main event: Washington State Geocaching Association.
  • Olympic Peninsula - Sept 8 picnic in Sequim.
  • 48 North - Sept 8 pizza party in Lynnwood.
  • Southwestern WA - Sept 8 breakfast in Vancouver.
  • South Central WA - Sept 8 potluck in Richland.
  • Cache-cadia - Sept 9 picnic at Rocky Reach Dam.

Not all those who wander are lost.
