Now that the dust has settled, I’d like to thank everyone for extending such a warm welcome to our visitors and making WSGA’s contributions to GeoWoodstock such a smashing success. biggrin.gif This was the largest endeavor WSGA has undertaken – the Going APE event alone was three times the size of anything we’ve attempted before – and none of it would have happened without our volunteers. We’ve received tons of complimentary feedback, in addition to the wonderful comments on our event pages and forums. You did yourselves and the club proud, showed our guests a wonderful time, and helped WSGA achieve wider recognition and evolve as a geocaching organization. cool.gif Some folks volunteered for multiple activities, and some are not club members – we thank you especially!

The scope of GW-related activities is as impressive as the volunteers who managed and supported them: the Going APE event, two On the Road events, two Fireworks 4th events, the WSGA booth at GeoWoodstock, the Cache Maintenance Drive, new APE trackables and other merchandise, and the new Cache Recommendations section on our website. Plus, many members supported COWWS in hosting the main events. To all our volunteers - job well done, you rock! biggrin.gif

First, I'd like to highlight a few individuals who really went the extra mile over the past few months:
  • jcar - As treasurer and club officer, Jim was involved in every aspect of every GW activity, offering ideas and advice (and caveats), working with activity managers, handling membership and online sales, and serving as registrar for the Going APE event. As if that weren't enough, he spearheaded development of our new Cache Recommendations section. I couldn't ask for a better wingman, and WSGA would not have been as successful without him. I'm sure his wife is happy this is over, and we aren't talking at 10 pm every night.
  • B+L - Lisa and Brian managed the WSGA booth for GeoWoodstock, and did a tremendous job of organizing the merchandise and volunteers for a successful day.
  • TotemLake - Greg stepped up to help manage the Going APE event, our most logistically complicated activity. He worked with two park systems (state and federal) to get necessary permits, planned the hiking portion, and managed the Annette venue on event day.
  • mc3cats - Chris was the enthusiastic coordinator of our Cache Maintenance Drive. He drove significant portions of major highways and assessed status of caches along them, as well as collaborating with locals on maintaining caches in key areas before GeoWoodstock.
  • Tree - We had a lot of new swag to produce, and Theresa (aka one of Three Bottles) oversaw it all as merchandise manager, including our new APE cachekinz, GeoWoodstock T-shirts, mini-pens, bottle holders, and tote bags.
  • FluteFace - Margaret knows her geocoins, and as our geocoin manager, she oversaw our new APE geocoin as well as the 2010 WSGA coin. She did a major part of the design for the APE coin, as well.

And now, I'd like to recognize all our GeoWoodstock volunteers - thanks for your help! (If I overlooked anyone, my sincere apologies.)

Abby, I'd like to do a special shout out to you. It had become apparent I was becoming overwhelmed with the day to day activities getting in the way with planning the Ape Event. You stepped up to the plate and your amazing expertise really took off and managed the finishing touches that really polished the overall event and turned it into the success everyone is agog over.

Thanks very much from me to you.

Greg

P.S. PBS was filming two projects that weekend. One on Brain Fitness and how Geocaching fits in with this, and another one along side this strictly about Geocaching and they were at the Ape Event and trailhead. They will let me know when it will air. I'll be sure to pass this on to y'all.

Cheers!
