New APE Cachekinz

WSGA is creating an APE Cachekinz, which will debut July 2, 2010, at our Going APE event, and will be sold ($4) at the WSGA booth during GeoWoodstock VIII on Saturday. After GW, we will sell the Cachekinz at events and possibly online.

Cachekinz are trackable aluminum tags with custom icons - way cooler than standard TB dog tags. Our tag features the famous "dancing ape" on the front - the same image that's on our APE geocoin - and the text on the back reads "Project A.P.E. / Mission 9: Tunnel of Light / www.wsgaonline.org" and then the tracking number (ADDICT in this art). The ape's upper hand is gripping the keychain that comes with the tag. It also has a custom icon:

Groundspeak granted permission for WSGA to use the famous "dancing ape" image, and we had a new, larger version created. It will also appear on our new APE geocoin, and the artwork was presented to Groundspeak for their future use (the previous version was a small bitmap). Kudos to designer Maggie Grogan of Lynden for creating this new "official" APE art (it wasn't easy satisfying people's preconceptions of what a larger version of the iconic image should look like).

Adding an additional Option for TBs

I want to test to the waters a bit on an issue I have with regards to TBs in caches.

Theres been several occasions when I have found TBs in caches that are not listed in the cache inventory online. When one gets on the TBs web page, its shows the TB usually being held by someone. Theres no smooth way of documenting that the cache was actually found in a cache. My thought was to have an option indicating that it was found at cache "GCXXXX" vs. it was taken directly from the last person who had it.

I welcome the comments on this one.

Cache on folks!

I'm headed down to Orlando, Florida, the first week of January for a trade show. After setting up our booth the morning of the 4th, I'm planning to spend some quality time caching. I'm happy to take along travel bugs/coins that would (also) enjoy a respite from the snow/slush.
