The chapter is proud to report that the Dishman Hills Natural Area is now squeeky clean. Turn out was a touch lower than in the past but we were still well represented with the usual cast of characters, newbies, and support from our Montana friends.

We had people on trash pick up teams, tree planting teams, and trail maintenance teams. This was all organized by the fine folk at REI.

A big thank you to board members Illumineon, Loren27, and Annazboys who did the bulk of the heavy lifting before hand so we could all do the heavy lifting today.

I am happy to announce the the 2010 (and part of 2011) Inland Empire Chapter Board of Directors:

Members at Large:
MntGoat50
Loren27

Quartermasters:
scareway
KV Jr

Tech Coordinators:
Annasboyz
Paneledzero

Historians:
LLCools (all both of them!)

Secretary:
Illumineon (kicking and screaming)

Treasurer:
lucymogus (ahem, also State VP - we're so proud!)

State Rep:
Bikely (we're proud of Bikely too)

Vice President:
Paneledzero

President:
Yours Truly

Although they are not represented on the current Board, we have a great group of cachers operating out of the Quad City (Lewiston/Clarkston,Pullman, Moscow) area that put the "Empire" in Inland. The quality of their work could and should make the rest of the country a tad jealous, LOL!

We expect good (if not great) things to happen on the dry side this year. All made possible by not only the community as a whole but the previous administrations that developed the game plan us newbies can execute. With that the current Board would like to thank the likes of:
MntGoat50
Lookout Lisa
Yellow Alligator
Chumpo
nelsoncrew
Dream Cacher
Those I may have forgotten about
And last but not least - Trevor and Kate

Raise a glass in cheer of the WSGA, COWWS, the Empire and a great year for all of us!

I am happy to report the Spring '09 CITO Event was a big success. The weather was absolutely perfect for the gang of people who turned out to clean up a stretch of trail on the south side of our Spokane River. An industrious member also had a slug of caches published the morning in the clean up area which generated extra excitement for the technologically advanced of the crowd.

After the event a hot dog and rib BBQ was held to celebrate. A couple of ringers were brought in to do the chef work and the results were excellent. A good time was had by all. The details can be seen on the CITO event page.

Here are the official stats:

Turnout: A bunch (uh, I forgot to count)
Volume of trash: A lot (I forgot to weigh)
Thankful Muggles: Many (1 confirmed)
BBQs used: 4
Hot dogs consumed: 42 (none dropped)
Ribs consumed: Approx 20 pounds
Potato salad consumed: 2 tubs
Chips and cookies consumed: All

Thanks again to all the Board and regular members for the organization and participation!

KidVegas19 - IEC Pres.

IE Chapter Board meeting

Greetings Board Members, WSGA Members, and WSGA Associates:

The first meeting with the newest board members was held on March 8. The main purpose of this meeting was to decide which members were going to take which positions. After deciding, the Board Roster looks like this:

Members At Large:
Bikely & Wifely
Yellow Alligator
Lookout Lisa

Quartermaster - Nelson Crew
Historian - LLCool
Secretary/Treasurer - Lucymogus
State Rep - MtnGoat50
Vice President - Trevor and Kate
President - KidVegas19

It was also decided that April 25 will be our CITO date. This is in direct conflict with the dates of May 2 & 3 set by Groundspeak which is in direct conflict with Bloomsday weekend. The CITO site is still pending but we got our best and brightest working on it and expect to have it nailed down by the end of the month. Once this is set an email notification will go out to the general mailing list to coincide with the event publication.

That is all for this report. We will keep the members updated as the activities happen.

May you find all you seek,

KidVegas19

Official 2009 CITO weekend - May 2-3

Geocaching's official CITO weekend is looming on the horizon - May 2-3. It's time to start thinking of locations in your area that would benefit from some help from the local geocaching community. Groundspeak rules require that CITOs and other events must be submitted for publication at least two weeks in advance, but if you arrange your event farther ahead of time, you can get in on something really cool from the WSGA!

All CITO weekend events arranged by March 25 will be included in the upcoming WSGA CITO t-shirt. It will feature a map of our state with all of the 2009 CITO events plotted on it. Groundspeak will not be producing a CITO shirt this year, so this will be the only 2009 CITO shirt available for the state of Washington. Details about the shirts will be coming soon from Laurie our WSGA President, but don't miss the opportunity for your event to be included!

The WSGA's goal for CITO Weekend 2009 is to have at least two events held within each chapter. If more can be held within any chapters, that will be even better! This is the biggest and best way we have to build good relations with the land managers who oversee all the wonderful places that we get to play, and to give back to our environment.

Putting on a CITO event is very easy to do, but to make it even easier I will be posting additional topics on the CITO forum soon with tips on how to organize a successful CITO event. In the meantime, who in the Inland Empire Chapter is going to step up and agree to host an event? Let's hear from you so we can make a big impact in our state with CITO this year!

End of year update...

Hi everyone!

Just a little news update....

The WSGA Inland Empire chapter is winding down for the year.
We had two great events this Fall -

About 30 of us turned out for the annual Spokane River Clean-up CITO this year and had a fun time socializing and eating pizza at a local restaurant afterward. A few of us even did a little post event caching too.
The Halloween party was a huge success.... lots of great costumes and prizes, plus all the fun socializing, eating pizza and doing a little pre-event caching on the way too.

The 2008 IE Board will be meeting next week to finalize our first set of IE Bylaws, which we hope to present and adopt at our Annual meeting next year.
We are also putting together a slate of 2009 officers, so if anyone is interested in any of these fun-filled volunteer positions (Pres, VP, Sec, Treasurer, Historian, Members at Large), please let one of us know. (Dream Cache R, MtnGoat50, Trevor + Kate, Yellow Alligator, Lookout Lisa, Chumpo)

We are also open to any EVENT ideas for next year, so put your thinking caps on. (Last year besides the fall River Clean-up and Halloween Event, we also had a Spring CITO in April, a Flash Mob in May, we hosted the State Campout in August, plus had lots of planning meetings to put all of this on.) We are always looking for more ideas and more volunteers, so again, feel free to contact any of us with your thoughts.

Our next Event will be the ANNUAL Winter Party in Jan/Feb.... more to come on this later!

Remember to renew your (or join) WSGA membership. Lots is happening around the state. Check out this new WSGA Website and feel free to use this IE chapter forum section for local communication.

In case you missed it, here is the latest on the new WSGA website -
WSGA State President, Half-Canadian, has posted her latest blog entry with all the latest happenings around the state. She talks about the election (be sure to vote!), the 2009 WSGA geocoin, and the new WSGA logo merchandise now available for purchase. Check out all this and more on the WSGA blog section.

Happy Caching!

Dream Cache R (2008 IE Chapter President)

My son and I stopped by the first stage a little while back hoping to get them both after a doctor visit, but we ended up wasting the daylight in the waiting room. We did, however, do the math to get the coords to the 2nd stage (which I accidentally deleted, but that's not the point) - it is ~.65 miles (as the crow flies), so we expect the overall hike to exceed two miles by the time we get back to the vehicles.

According to weather.com, it is supposed to be raining and 54° on Saturday, so dress accordingly.

I understand this is really, really late notice, so I don't really expect anyone to push their schedules around on my account.
