Why Join WSGA?

We have updated our Why Join WSGA? and Membership Application handouts and you can find them here:

>> WSGA Benefits and Membership Application (PDF file) <<

The front side of this two-page document has our What is WSGA / Why Join / Benefits info. The back side is our Membership Application. Please feel free to distribute this document - you can print it for events, or forward the PDF to interested parties.

We strongly encourage folks interested in joining WSGA to use the online application, as it greatly simplifies getting them registered, into the database, and their payment into the WSGA account.

However, you are welcome to share our Why Join? info at events, and accept manual signups if it encourages membership.

Ideally, a Board member (officer or chapter rep) should handle manual registrations, so if you have interested folks at your event, try to connect them with an attending Board member. If you do take an event signup yourself, be sure they complete the entire application, and collect a check (payable to WSGA) or cash for the prorated amount of dues. Forward completed applications and payments to: WSGA, P.O. Box 850, Marysville, WA 98270. In addition, email the WSGA Treasurer with their name and contact information so our membership records can be kept current.

If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact me or another Board member. Thanks!

In which chapter would I belong

I just registered onto the website, but have been doing this for a little over two years now. I just recently moved from Ellensburg to Rochester and wanted to become involved with a WSGA chapter. Now, I was looking at counties in which each chapter represents and to my surprise, Thurston County is nowhere to be found in any of the boundary descriptions for any chapter. To which chapter to I belong or which chapters do I get to choose between? Preferrably, the closer a chapter meets to Rochester the better for me. Thanks for your help in showing me the correct path. I hope to be a regular contributor to the forums on this site.

Pinpoint Map

This is just throwing an idea out there... not sure if it's possible or what it would take to make happen.
It would just be a nifty tool to see where geocachers call home, and see where players are more saturated, my thoughts are if I know that say 6 members are located within 10 miles of our location we could have a get together or go for a group hunt.
Here's what I think would be cool.
Have a map of the state of Wa. posted and put a pin in the map for every member, it would have to be done by someone who has access to each members address. The startup would take some time, but as new members come in it would just be a matter of adding a pin in the map.
Thoughts? Critisism? Complaints? Protests?

5hodges5

Conducting Polls - suggestion

I trolled the forums today, and see I missed the chance to vote on the WSGA Patches poll. I would like to have voted, since I had queried whether sending out patches each year, identical except for date, was something people really wanted and an effective use of our limited funds. (I don't do anything with mine, they are stuck in a drawer somewhere.) I didn't see the poll publicized anywhere, so I kinda stumbled across it.

Unless the broader WSGA membership is aware of a poll and thus has an opportunity to vote, I don't think the results can be deemed a true reflection of the membership - it's just whoever happens to visit the site and see the poll while it's open. The results might be the same, or not.

The reality is, few people visit the site every day (or even week), which is typical for most websites. Websites are passive technology vis a vis communicating with members. There's a LOT of competition for eyeballs, and most folks have to choose where to spend their limited online time.

Thus, I encourage WSGA to publicize things that affect the membership, or where you want their input, via email (an active, push technology), so that folks are aware, informed, and can act if they choose (just like the board nominations are done).

I get emails from lots of orgs I belong to, and frequently something in them impels me to visit the relevant website, which I otherwise rarely do. (WTA is a good example.) I love that emails (or email newsletters) keep me informed without me having to remember and make time to visit a dozen websites every day or so (on top of the ones I 'must' visit). Based on loads of website studies over the years, I am probably pretty typical. Email and websites are complementary and quite effective community and communications tools when done in tandem.

My 2 cents. Thanks for listening!

Abby

WSGA laminated ID's

We were proudly wearing our WSGA laminated ID's and lanyards at a recent caching event. We were using our snazzy WSGA lanyards as well. Several people came up to us at various times during the event to comment that our cards were "turned around" or backwards, leaving only a blank, white card. Would it be difficult to perhaps print the same WSGA information on either side of the ID cards? That way, one doesn't have to be constantly looking down at the card to make sure the cool-looking side is facing out.

Just a thought...thanks for the consideration,

Three Bottles
